a month for a week

Why exactly? I just love this week.

Monday marked the return of my normal life from the two devastating weeks my family faced because of the Dengue craze that hit my two brothers. Thank God, they're all well now. Whew. As I was saying - Monday. I was already experiencing the backlog from work. I was forced to rush a certain book project - layout, editing, proofreading, and coordinating with the artist for the book cover and the printing press - all for an entire week. It's probably the most crammed thing I've ever done in my life.

Aside from the aforementioned, I was also asked to write an episode's script for Pasakalye (a DJ-musicale program) and record for it as well. My, oh my I thought I couldn't make it. But all thanks to the glory of God, HIS spirit was able to somehow put words in my thoughts. Hence, I was able to finish the script fast enough to spare me a few hours of sleep before recording. It was also because of Ms. Rica Bolipata-Santos' article, "Astonishments" that pushed me into writing the best I could. Her articles really inspire me to become the best that I can be in my field. (On that not, I thank you, Ms. Rica! Not only have you been an idol, but a friend despite the distance) Her article was truly "astonishing" and if you want to read it, I think I've posted it somewhere on my Facebook wall.

And speaking of "astonishment" I was really astonished with the heart-to-heart talk I had with my best friend. He doesn't usually take me seriously, but that Thursday night we stayed up until 3am talking about serious matters - stuff that I never thought we'd talk about, ever. Thank you so much, Richell. I needed that, and you know it.

I was also able to meet up with a friend from college who is now taking up his MA in the Ateneo. It was definitely great to catch up, though we're not really that close during college. Old friends are definitely welcome in my new life. Hello JJ... I mean, Magic (because he prefers to be called Magic now)

Another old friend celebrated his birthday two days ago. He was my "kuya" during our chorale days and the school paper days. I was always amazed by how much love and devotion he has for the Blessed Mother. And I look up to him each time we have our little "religious chat." Even though he had a girl friend then, I knew he was the religious life - that he has a calling. Viola! He entered the St. Vincent Seminary and we (me and ate Kat) visited him there, in time for the exhibit he put in honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. It was also a good timing because the Vincentian seminarians were scheduled to have a BINGO night for the benefit of their apostolate. We were their only guests, and we are very honored that God let us experience it with them. Kuya Choy never fails to inspire me and encourage me to strengthen my devotion to God and surrender to His will without hesitation. You have been my angel, and now I'm glad that now you can be an angel to more and more people who most need your help.

So there you go... All that in a week's time. And the week isn't over yet... I sure am excited for more out-of-the-box stuff heading this way.

Crumbs!

I really hate it when people look little of me. How do you say it in Filipino - minamaliit?

I may be just quiet most of the time. I may carry this simple and light personality. But I'm much more than that - DEFINITELY so much more! Right now, I feel so underestimated; like I'm the kind of person who can't do anything right, who doesn't pick up quickly, who's a failure.

Dang! I'm really, ultimately upset right now. This certain person really has a way of making me feel so useless, and like I couldn't understand anything about a particular subject. Okay, yeah, I get it. When it comes to this field, YOU'RE the guy! But heck! When you were out of the country, I was the one working on my projects. ME! And it's not like I was born in the 14th century, for crying out loud! I know what I'm doing! And not to brag, but I actually am good at what I do. You may know more about these stuff, but just you wait. I'll be better than you, so don't ever look down on me. There will come a time that I'll be the cookie, and all you'll ever be are crumbs on my plate.

7 Random Thoughts

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER ONE

Home. I miss home. Even though I just came from home. i just miss home.
Okay, excessive usage of "home" haha.
Or maybe I just miss the constant feeling of being "at home" anywhere I go or whoever I am with. Am giving away free hugs, anyone?

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER TWO
This morning, I woke up with so much rage! Inexplicable rage! And NO, it's not about my hormones... can't remember ever lashing out at anything during my cycles.
Even up to now, I feel like starting a fight with... well, anyone. But of course, I won't do it. I still have my senses with me... somewhere. Haha.
Just wait a minute. Was it a full moon last night?

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER THREE
I think I'm dehydrated. All dried up like Sahara.

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER FOUR
Ugh, busted mouse again?! It's not lighting up but the clickers are working fine. Tss, who am I kidding? Busted, still.
What is it with me and these computer mice? When did they declare war against me? *sniffs* And more importantly, why?

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER FIVE
I want to go an a movie marathon - not the ones currently showing in the theaters, but old ones. Old romantic movies. Call me cheesy but they certainly know how to make me feel better.

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER SIX
Before leaving home for work, Brian, one of our students, came in. He's so small. I think he's just about 2ft tall! He's just new and a bit shy, but I think he's going to be one of the rascals soon enough.

RANDOM THOUGHT NUMBER SEVEN
I want coffee.

What?! Who?!

Just wanted to remember this night as one of the many instances that I wanted to write but I don't know what to write about. I need an outlet for all this energy burning inside of me. It's kills the hell out of me! Or it could also be that I'm sort of desperately seeking for a sensible conversation?

Okay. Just drop the "desperately."

Girl Talks And A Whole Lotta Epic Failures. LOL.

Had another wonderful bonding session with my gals this weekend after a long and tiring week. We had our little "slumber party" at Sarah's pad in Makati. Good thing Insan (Kathy) has a car (lol, peace girl. don't want you to think I like your car more than you. HUGS!), I had no trouble bringing Artemis along for work (Oh yeah, by the way, Artemis is my new laptop. Apollo's LCD screen is apparently dead right now and would cost me 15grand to replace it... so getting a new one is more practical); had to write the script for the show the following night.

We had Wendy's delivered for dinner. Ah, stuffed with macaroni salad, soggy french fries, vanilla almond ice cream, chips and just enough booze - nothing too much. We actually planned to have a movie marathon with the films suggested by Sarah, but we spent a whole lot of time converting these movie files and trying make things work... haha, it was a total epic failure because in the end, we settled to watch through Sarah's Macbook. Geez, all the trouble. Haha.

We had tons of stories to tell - me and Sarah's career lives, Kathy's bar examination for law. Our conversations were actually meaningful. We spent the night and the morning after just talking and hearing our opinions on things that matter.

In the morning, we went to this 'sophisticated market' in the park near the condominium, just a couple of blocks away. There were all sorts of stuff, food and there was even a group of some sort of indigenous people making music and dancing and dancing! It was a happy place on a Saturday morning. We bought brunch. Kathy had chicken embutido, tofu and chili, and rice. Sarah had shrimp something pasta. I had a tray of makis and sushis, and a kebab on pita. After that we hurried home because Kathy's expecting visitors that afternoon. It was really sweet of her to drive us - first to our place so can I drop off my stuff and get a smaller hand bag, and then all the way to Sarah's place where we're supposed to do the template for one of her work projects. Another epic failure because she kinda missed out the fact that there's no Adobe InDesign installed in her Macbook. So we just went to Azta to get her hair done.

Good thing we were able to track Alex down. He's my favorite Azta stylist. He cut Sarah's hair to a pixie-like do, and helped us pick a good color for it. Long hours of waiting paid off because the new look actually fits her. Alex even gave tips to style it. Woohoo! Then we're off to Katipunan for dinner (had 9pm call time in JesCom for the show). It was sweet of Sarah to treat me a nice fish, lettuce and tomato sandwich from Pancake House. Yuh-um!

Just another memory I'll forever keep in my heart. Wonder when's our next bonding session. Hopefully, Eena could join us with our little angel, Shaia. =) Tootles!

A Perfect Fit!

Two weeks ago, it just popped into my head that I wanted to solve a jigsaw puzzle and hang it on my wall. Incidentally, that weekend, Mom saw a bunch of 300-piece puzzles on a toy sale. All had dog images, unfortunately there weren't any Labradors (like our Max) nor Beagles (like our Cooper) so I settled for a close up of the face of this super cute Siberian Husky for just PhP100! (Yeah, can you believe it?!) Anyway, I decided to work on it in the office to keep me busy while waiting for a cab or to get my mind off things.

Getting started was really easy. All I had to do was look for the pieces that made up the frame - aka, the edges. It defines the whole puzzle. It makes the puzzle more realistic to solve. Then comes the tricky part. A lot of those pieces looked alike! It took a whole lot of trial and error until I got the perfect fit for different areas. (Oh, I wish I documented the unsolved puzzle when the pieces were all scattered on my desk!) It got a bit frustrating when you're stuck and nothing seemed to fit; you can't even see the main picture - in this case, the face of the Husky.

There were also times that I needed to give myself a break from solving it because there came a time when all of the pieces looked identical. According to my logbook (yes, I did log every solving session), the longest time I sat to solve it was an hour. Here lies the sessions:

(Note: On September 23, Jay Gomez wanted to give it a shot)

It took a total of 5 hours flat to finish it. I got help from Jay, of course, and Nix helped a bit. It felt so good when there were no more scattered pieces and all that's left is an image of the Husky. But also, in a way, I got attached to solving it too much that I'm actually missing it. Call me crazy but I find it therapeutic - having to solve something almost impossible! I just love the challenge, especially when nothing seems to fit and then, voila! a perfect fit!

Maybe I'm just that kind of person. I love challenges. I love searching for complicated things and then having to fix it in the end. I love sneaking in the dark to find light. Maybe I like all the trouble because I just love making things right, or seeing solutions to every dilemma. I feel like the sun peeping through a cloudy sky.

I guess this explains a bit why I would like to see my life as complicated when there's really nothing wrong with it. I let others make it complicated for me. I invite the trouble. I seek for disaster. I have this knack of involving myself in tricky situations. I get myself messed up with all the mixed-up emotions. All these because I know there's a way out of it. I want to prove to everyone that there are no dead-ends in life - unless of course you kill yourself; now that's stupidity. Solutions don't just come to us, we need to search for it. And if we can't find it, we have to make it ourselves.

Just like solving a puzzle. You just have to be patient. See things differently. Rotate the pieces and try every possible side. Before you know it, everything fits perfectly and all you have is one big picture.

Size: 38.1 x 31.7 cm. Number of pieces: 300. Total Time: 5 hours.
